What is Flag Football?

Screen Shot 2013-04-04 at 20.46.26You may have watched American Football on TV, and been enthralled by the glamour, the speed, and the strategy involved in the execution of the game, and thought, ‘I’d like to do that’. Well you can!

There are currently two forms of American Football being played here in the UK, full contact known as kitted football, or non-contact known as flag football which is what the Glasgow Hornets play.

The simplest way to describe Flag Football would be to say it’s like a form of 5-a-side NFL American Football; without the helmets or pads; or the painful hits for that matter. Eliminating all contact allows for a more free flowing and fun game that can be played by anyone who wishes to participate; young and old, male and female, all enjoying what this fast growing sport has to offer.

Over the past 13 years the interest in flag football as a leisure pursuit; a training tool; and a competitive sport; has increased dramatically. Yes, flag football has become a sport in its own right, fuelled by the interest shown in over 60 countries throughout the world.

So if you’d like to try it yourself, why not come down and join in for our Monday night training!
